Via Cosby Sweaters: In the second quarter of the Washington Wizards’ upset of the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night, Nick Young may have attempted one of the worst layups in the NBA. Down by seven at the time, Wizards rookie Shelvin Mack started a fast break by finding Nick Young with the outlet pass. It looked like an easy two points for Nick Young but he inexplicably threw the ball over the backboard. Watch the video to see if for yourself, it is definitely a head scratcher

WASHINGTON (AP)—The same arena that rocked to “M-V-P!” for Kobe Bryant in the first half was bellowing “Beat L.A.!” in the final minute.

The Los Angeles Lakers played a tough game against the Detroit Pistons on March 6 and now will have to face the Washington Wizards on March 7 – on the back-end of a back-to-back. Kobe Bryant and the Lakers fell just short in Detroit, losing to the Pistons in overtime 88-85. Bryant came out wearing a new black mask and shot 2-for-10 in the first half – he switched back to the clear mask at halftime and likely won’t wear the black mask against the Wizards.

I saw first-hand just how much the Washington Wizards were energized in front of 18,688 at the Verizon Center on Wednesday night in their first game back following NBA All-Star Weekend, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the three point shooting of the Orlando Magic as they fell at home, 102-95. Dwight Howard Michael C. Jones The game initially looked like it would be another case of the Wizards failing yet again to compete with another top-tier team, but John Wall’s 33 points, which included 14 in the fourth quarter, kept the game within reach until its final minutes.

PHOENIX (AP)—For an instant early in the second half, the Washington Wizards appeared to have a legitimate shot at their first victory over Phoenix in six years. Then they were overwhelmed during one of the Suns’ most dominant stretches of basketball this season. Marcin Gortat scored 20 points, Steve Nash had 12 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in three quarters, and the Suns beat Washington 104-88 on Monday night for their 10th straight win over the Wizards.

As we enter Wednesday’s action and the team’s pairing with the Orlando Magic, the Washington Wizards remain the NBA’s lone winless team. The squad’s body language hasn’t been great, they’ve been laughed at by more than a few Twitter wonks due to the team’s lack of heady play, and they’ve even gotten an innocent man chucked from a game due to a “technical glitch.” And rookie Czech Republic native Jan Vesely, he of the absolutely zero minutes played this season due to a bum hip, seems to have cut straight to the core of the Wiz through some hesitant English.
